ABOUT OUR CHURCH

Reverend Phyllis Wideman Pickett,

Associate Minister

I was born a sinner and baptized into the Body of Christ as an African Methodist Episcopal at an early age in Bethel AME of Evanston, Illinois. I grew up in Evanston and graduated from Evanston Township High School, and have lived in Evanston ever since.
I am married to Milton L. Pickett formerly of North Carolina. We have 3 children, Darlisa who is the eldest child, Tramaine the middle child and Milea the youngest. Darlisa is married to Seth Himrod, and they have four children, Timothy, Nykel, Nia and Nadia which are the loves of my life.
I attended and earned degrees at the following post-secondary institutions: Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas (B.A. in Health, Physical Education and Recreation), University of Illinois Circle Campus, National Louis University, (M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction, M.Ed. in Supervision and Administration).
I am a retired teacher, having served at Evanston Township High School, for 34 years.  I am also an ordained minister, currently on the Staff at Bethel AME church in Evanston, Illinois.
I have served as the North District Conference Coordinator for Women in Ministry of the Fourth Episcopal District in the AME Church. I have co-founded the following: a bible study home ministry and WOW, (Women of Worship) which is a Bethel AME women’s ministry group. I am a proud member of Delta Sigma Sorority.  I am an avid bowler, who loves to travel.
